What to do in Barcelona
Barcelona is a beautiful coastal city by the Mediterranean Sea. The city of Barcelona stands out for being a complete city, especially for its monuments and stunning beaches. These attract thousands of tourists who flock to Barcelona each year, but there are many other things to do in Barcelona.
Barcelona is a modern, lively and vibrant city that people from across the globe love to visit each year. This charming, atmospheric and incredible city is one of the most popular in the world.
One of Barcelona’s advantages is that it is a bustling city, with something happening all year round, no matter how many days you decide to stay. If you are looking for things to do in Barcelona, here are some ideas to enjoy a unique experience in this special city.
Sagrada Familia
The Sagrada Familia is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic sites in Barcelona. This magnificent structure can be seen across the city, as it is situated in the centre and stands over 170 metres high.
One of the things that makes this monument so special is its peculiar architecture. Its main architects were Antoni Gaudí and Isidre Puig i Boada. The Sagrada Familia is still under construction with an expected completion date in 2026. The inauguration of the Sagrada Familia will thus coincide with the 100th anniversary of Gaudí's death.
However, the building works haven’t stopped this majestic monument of Barcelona. This church, designed by Gaudí, is a modernist masterpiece, widely regarded as the greatest exponent of this style. Inside the Sagrada Familia, you will find different rooms where you can admire and enjoy the work of this iconic, symbolic and renowned architect.
Beaches in Barcelona
One of the things that makes Barcelona so popular is its coastline and beaches. Barcelona stands out for being a contemporary city full of culture and for its beautiful beaches where you can relax and forget about everything. These are just two reasons why the city of Barcelona is so complete and allows for making many different plans.
One of the most famous beaches in Barcelona is Barceloneta. Its location, services and the area’s beauty make Barceloneta a perfect place to sunbathe and relax. Moreover, Barceloneta is the closest beach to the centre of Barcelona and is well connected to public transport.
Another beach we would like to recommend is Sant Miquel, a wide beach that is 420 metres long. Sant Miquel beach is, without a doubt, one of the busiest spots on the coast of Barcelona. It is also very close to places of interest such as the Barcelona Aquarium and the Museum of the History of Catalonia.
Park Güell
Park Güell is a World Heritage Site in Barcelona. The park’s construction began around 1900, but it was not until 1926 that Park Güell of Barcelona was officially inaugurated.
Today, Park Güell, which covers an area of 17 hectares, is located in the upper part of the city of Barcelona, in the Collserola mountain range. Its peculiar style was designed by Gaudí, and, as usual, it is in the modernist style. In 1984 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Park Güell is made up of distinct zones including the pavilions, staircase, the hypostyle hall, the Hill of Calvary and the Gaudí House Museum, which is worth a visit to learn more about the life of this famous architect.
